The most common type of bet in MMA (mixed martial arts) fights is a bet on the duration of the fight. That is, the bettor tries to predict whether a particular fight will last all the allotted rounds and the winner will be decided by the judges, or whether the fight will end early.
MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is a combat sport, which combines representatives of different martial arts, but has unified rules, which determine the course of the bouts. Each bout in MMA lasts no less than three five-minute rounds. If it’s a title fight, there can be five rounds.
Bets are placed on total scores of 0.5; 1.5; 2.5; 3.5 and 4.5. Usually, the betting is on the TB (total over). That is, a bet is made that the fight will last longer than the total declared by the bettor.
Total rounds betting usually takes place during meetings of opponents whose statistics do not show many fights ending early. But it is also possible to bet in other cases, if you know the statistics and potential of each of the participants.
Betting on TB 2,5 you should be more or less sure that the fight will come to the second round, and the total is considered played after the timer 2 minutes 31 seconds from the start of the round. If the fight goes to the third round and beyond, it will only increase the winnings. If, however, one of the two contestants wins early in round one or the first half of round two, the bet will be ‘burned’.
If we are talking about fights between strong fighters, in the statistics of which there are many fights that ended early, it is better to choose a TM (total less). That is, the odds are staked on the number of rounds remaining in the match being less than the stated total.
For example, for a title fight between two strong opponents with a series of early victories in the assets of a series of several victories, you can make a bet specifying the total less than 4.5. In this case the bet will “burn” only if the fight will last more than the second half of the fifth round. In all other cases the bettor will either win or get his money back.
As for the strategy of betting on the total in MMA fights, there is no absolutely correct recipe for success in this case, as well as in other types of sweepstakes. But there are strategies that at least increase the likelihood that the bet will play.
When betting on the round total, it is very important to consider the weight class of the fighters. For example, heavyweights have a strong punching power and less mobility. That is, in a weight class over 80 kg the probability of an early end to the fight is higher.
Also we must analyze the percentage of early victories of each of the participants in the fight. Here everything is clear: a fighter with a higher percentage in the statistics has a greater chance to win early.
If a fighter at the peak of his form and a fighter at the peak of his career meet in a single fight, it’s also easy to conclude that there is a high probability of an early end to the fight. If they are both in good form, then by contrast they are more likely to work out all the rounds, and the judges will make the decision.
